Course Description
The SCHN: Essential Paediatrics program is designed to provide healthcare professionals with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver effective care for children and young people in their care. The program covers essential paediatric presentations and issues commonly presented in primary care and is aimed at the general practitioner who see children in a clinical or emergency setting.
It is suitable for General Practitioners, Junior Medical Doctors, Registrars, Physicians and Nurse Practitioners.

Learning outcomes
The program content is divided into 12 modules which reflect a journey of learning in paediatric education covering all sub-specialty areas from neonates to adolescents. Upon completion of the program, participants can expect to:
Assessment
Assess a child using paediatric history and examination techniques including a developmental assessment, recognise ‘Red Flags’ presentations.
Investigation
Organise and interpret necessary investigations to assist with reaching a diagnosis in a timely manner whilst avoiding unnecessary costly and painful procedures.
Management
Implement evidenced-based management plans for common paediatric presentations.
Advocacy
Advocate for all patients and families for improved health outcomes in all children, including those at risk, by providing timely interventions and safety netting.
Learning modules
The SCHN: Essential Paediatrics program is comprised of 12 modules of study. Each module contains recorded lectures, resources, weblinks and a knowledge-checking quiz. End of module quizzes will comprise of single best answer questions, to test the application of knowledge gained from the module. Feedback will be presented for correct and incorrect responses, and participants will have multiple attempts.
When all module components are completed, participants will be awarded with a Certificate of Completion, for their continuing professional development records and self-submission
